Albert Baldeo, who is running for District Leader with the blessings of the Queens County Democratic organization in the primary election next Tuesday, took his community advocacy to a higher level by declaring his candidacy for the vacant City Council seat in District 28, which encompasses the neighborhoods of Jamaica, Rochdale Village, Ozone Park, South Ozone Park and Richmond Hill. “I have received overwhelming requests from diverse groups from every corner of this district to be their Council member, and I have answered their call. Time is overdue for our community to get its fair share of our tax dollars, and we need a representative to ensure that we have fair census redistricting, a better quality of life and an equitable allocation of jobs, schools, hospitals and resources,” Baldeo said.
Baldeo heads the United Communities Alliance which held its annual awards gala last Tuesday night at the elegant Villa Russo. The occasion brought together many diverse supporters and friends from throughout the New York City area to celebrate the accomplishments and significant contributions of elected, professional, community and business leaders for their tireless commitment to serving the community. These leaders were applauded for their work in building a stronger New York, and for highlighting what can be accomplished when we give of ourselves for the benefit of others.
A moving tribute was paid by Governor David Paterson, who thanked Albert for his visionary leadership, hard work and sacrifice to uplift others, his advocacy and resilience to fight for a better quality of life, his work with elected officials and community leaders to find solutions to issues and problems confronting the community, and his ability to unite diverse neighborhoods. State Senate Majority Leader John Sampson, Congressman Anthony Weiner, State Senator Joe Addabbo, Assembly member Mike Miller, Assembly member Audrey Pheffer and Council member James Sanders also praised and thanked Albert Baldeo for his efforts to empower and fight for the community, for encouraging civic responsibility and engagement, for bringing new Americans into the mainstream of American life, and for his dedication to improving the quality of life for all New Yorkers. “Albert Baldeo is a fighter for our community, and we commend his exemplary dedication to public service, ” they said.
The United Communities Alliance seeks to empower and improve the quality of life of residents living in Queens. Its goals are to consolidate residents of the district into active participation for the betterment of the district, to develop coalitions of neighborhood organizations and groups, to foster a greater civic voice for the community, to solve issues and problems confronting neighborhoods, and to translate civic activity into positive activity.
