Starcom Network, a Barbados-based radio station, reports the passing of Prime Minister David Thompson.
Mr. Thompson had early Guyanese roots, a point he had made while visiting Guyana in 2009 at the height of tensions between the two countries over Barbados’ treatment of Guyanese.
Official sources confirm the Prime Minister passed away at approximately 2:10 a.m. today Saturday 23rd October, 2010. He was 48.
Prime Minister Thompsonhad been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer for which he had been undergoing treatment for the past several months, and he recently handed over most of his Portfolios to acting Prime Minister Freundel Stuart and other members of the cabinet.
The Barbados-based Caribbean Media Corporation reported that his wife Mara and three children were at his bedside when he passed away at his home in St. Phillip.
