Some CDN$40M of cocaine was found by Canadian authorities in cartons of Guyana pepper sauce and a businessman was to appear in an Ontario court yesterday charged with importing and conspiracy to traffic in the illegal substance
The cocaine was seized by Canadian police following months of investigation which saw them tracking the shipment from New Brunswick and letting the accused, identified as 45-year-old Mahendrapaul Doodnauth of Sequin Court in Etobicoke, take possession of it with only a small amount of the cocaine still in the packaging.
According to Canadian media reports the bust is said to be the biggest in the history of the province of Ontario. Doodnauth is said to be the owner of Caribbean International Food Distributors in the town of Etobicoke.
Doodnauth was nabbed as he offloaded the boxes at a storage facility.
While none of the reports gave a date as to when the shipment would have left Guyana or any other information on the Guyana link, reports said the pepper shipment arrived in the country on board the Tropic Canada in Saint John, New Brunswick on December 8. The freight ship reportedly regularly transports goods between Saint John and the Caribbean.
Media reports said that the drug was inserted into the cardboard dividers inside 551 boxes out of the 1,250 that were carrying the pepper sauce. The cocaine was uncovered by border guards during their inspection of the freighter. Investigators used an X-ray machine and a sniffer dog to find the drugs.
In total, they found 276 kilogrammes of cocaine which, when cut and resold by street-level drug dealers, could amount to as much as 400 kilogrammes of the drug.
The guards removed most of the cocaine, but allowed two kilogrammes to be delivered to Caribbean International Food Distributors and when the boxes were loaded into a storage facility on December 19, Doodnauth was arrested.
Doodnauth has been charged with importing cocaine, conspiracy to import cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and was expected to appear in court via video link yesterday afternoon.

In regards to Mr Doodnauth head line. To my knowledge he is just an ordinary person trying to earn a daily cash like others do. Just like others having their own business by receiving product or package from different country or cites. How can he be aware of receiving cocaine in his package. I strongly belive that he is not guilty he is very much been setup and wrongfully been judge before knowing the entire situation.
i know mr doodnauth, for over 20 years he is a very quiet and nice guy, every story has two side, this side that you guys know is the media side but there is another side and only god, him and his family know the truth please don’t judge

Mr.Doodnauth may not be guilty. Not everything stated is ture, so get your facts straight. Sometimes the media is like women gossiping: false news in order to spice things up.
Why don’t you all just wait and see what actually happens with the case. If he is not guilty, then hopefully justice will prevail. If he is guilty beyond doubt, then let the law handle him. My experience in life has been that don’t always think you know someone, because the fact is that you really don’t. It was Carl Yung who clearly noted in his manifesto that we all put on a mask when we interact with the outside world. It is only when we are within the confines of our own, that we remove this mask.

He is just a suspect to this hold up, Why are people start over re-acting for just wrongfully info? Like give a man a break its the holiday. His poor family must be worry and miss him around this time. Think about this the officer should be more consern where its coming from and who is preparing these package or containers? Investigation should be taken place more in Guyana..

This guy cant be trusted….obviously his image is just a cover up….he received these things himself….what about “RENTED WAREHOUSE”….I’m pretty sure before charging him the police did a well rounded investigation….this $40 million shipment was not the first…..funny I say this…because there was another one on the way….the FEDS just caught another $14million shipment of cocaine headed for innocent DOODNAUTH….do you really think the FEDS…local police…opp. rcmp….just went and charged this guy…without gathering evidence that would stick on him in court…..I’ll bet you he’s guilty….at lease not there is over $50million of cocaine off the streets of Toronto and surrounding areas…that would have been consumed by peoples sons, daughters, mother, fathers, and relatives:)

Hey, its plain and simple. All the top cartels are really nice and loving guys, thats a big part of the business that has to be perfected to earn trust. I feel for the family of the accused but check this out.
He picked up the merchandise and didnt have any cheap labour working with him at the time.

And lastly I called someone I know out of curiousity pretty well who doesnt know that I know he is a in house carrier (Ontario area). He told me he knew Mahendra pretty well and when I asked him if he knew about this operation he said that he think they may have got him.

I am one of Mr.dodnauths long time investors and yes he was involved in this terrible crime, in an effort to acquire extra capital, and with that west-Indian greed mentality he opt for the illegal way. Being a business owner myself, I’ve also participated in a few get-rich skims in order to redeem a little extra cash..and we’re talking in the 6 figure ball park, but i knew when to quit..sadly Mr.Dodnauth didn’t.
In the end he is guilty and will serve time pertaining to that of the CDL. But I’m Guyanese and i still drive a Corvette HA.
