In Guyana, it is no surprise to discern that medicines get sold in black market for hefty sums of profits that would otherwise not be had, had sold in controlled environments. Moreover, male physicians will constantly violate the patient/doctor relationship by coercing a sexual relationship with patients they may find physically appealing. Among the other information presented below, you would find my personal experience with Dr. Naimatally of New Amsterdam.
It is a notorious fact that doctors in Guyana pilfer medication from the Public Hospitals in Guyana and sell it to patients for thousands of dollars in profits at their own private clinics. When a patient is critical and admitted to the hospital there are no medication or limited amounts and the simple fact is while some individuals may have access to the expensive private clinics, others are left to die in the public institutions. More over the problem worsens when the patient/doctor relationship is violated on the basis sexual misconduct in part of the doctor.
Health care Professionals make more money selling Viagra, Diazepam, Valium, Lipitor and oral contraceptives, prescriptions, medical leave of absence, and embassy medical requirements are also sold at their private clinics. However, these officials have addiction issues themselves; Dr. Balram and Dr. Seepersaud who are well known in Corriverton, Berbice area are infamous for prescribing medications in a drunken stupor. Moreover, Dr. Vishnu and Dr. Raghunauth of Skeldon Berbice are known for pilfering medications from Public hospital to sell in their private clinics and over charged for medications they do not give. In many cases they tell patients to take this (referring to the medicine) not explaining what the medication actually is that the patient is actually taking. In many cases it is a placebo or incorrect treatment for a diagnosed disorder.
Dr. Naimatally of New Amsterdam sexually abused female patients on hundreds of occasions, rubbing his hand on patient breast, buttocks, standing behind them and rubbing their neck, holding his genitals and claim that they have depression and need a massage on the upper leg to loosen up the muscles. Dr. Niamatally refuses chaperones in his office, meanwhile staffs do not know of the doctor sexual misconduct. He used sedatives on women and sexually assaults them. When they gain consciousness they were totally naked, nausea and no recollection on what took place earlier.
This, I found out after I had visited his office for medical services.

The sale of medications by doctors is not happening only in Guyana. It seems as though most people in supposedly “respected” positions are the ones trying to make easy money even if it’s not in a legitimate way.
In Richmond Hill, New York…Guyanese doctors are selling medicines to their patients. Many Guyanese patients in the Richmond Hill community do not have medical insurance or drug prescription plans and are limited to the medical care they can afford. Many of these Guynaese residents within the community see Guynaese physicians who in turn sell them medicines along with less than optimal patient care. This is a major issue within the community of Richmond Hill that needs to be addressed,
Guyanese physicians are all pigs. They would charge consultation fees, then you have to pay the doctor a large sum [cash in his office] to say a few lines that you already knew which is not even important. Some doctors would make patients took unecessary tests just to make more money. Patients even make suggestions as to which drug they think is appropriate for their illness and bribe the doctors just to write out the prescription they needed.When is it going to end? What is the Ministry of Health doing? All that you read is millions spent on roads,hospitals and schools. These doctors are affluent, they have contacts all over and they dont seem to care about their sexual miscondouct because no one can afford to hire a top lawyer.
comrades again i must point out these guys are aligned with the power brokers. unless the people move in mass against them nothing will happen. don’t think the ministry of health will. a dr gobin at woodlands who may not even be a gynacologist was in charge of a birth where the would.be mother died of excessive bleeding under some most mysterious circumstances. he’s alive and kicking still at woodlands…maybe even still delivering babies!

So, here it is fellow bloggers. It is clear that that there are many injustices occurring in Guyana and we are all passionate about them in our own way and we are all affected by them uniquely. However, at the same time, it is unrealistic for us to address them all appropriately and thoroughly nevertheless it is fair to say that we can affect some of them. What we do have to our advantage is the power of shared voice, the web and the ability to articulate ourselves in order to be heard. It is good thing that we can have open dialect on stories like that voiced by Nafeeza, which pained me to envisage the experience as I was reading it. Dr. Carl Niamatally is a SEXUAL PREDATOR and he should be put behind bars.The Ministry of Health knew that about him, yet they have him practising medicine.He was accused for sexual assault on several ocassion and the matter was dismissed at the High Court. Women are scared to speak up because some were threathened, while others fear condemnation from society.The poor dont have money to go against the rich Doctors and Lawyers misdeeds, they usually end up suffering silently.Well it is time to make a change.
