Prime Minister Patrick Manning of Trinidad and Tobago is set to undergo surgery to remove a malignant tumour in his left kidney during the morning hours of December 17 2008.

According to the Prime Minister’s office, the Prime Minister’s doctors have noted that the duration of the surgery is expected to be a couple hours. The surgery is to be conducted at the Cimeq Hospital in Cuba. In 1998 Manning had valve replacement surgery and had a pacemaker inserted at the very facility.

Sources have said doctors are expected to remove the left kidney.

Yesterday, Manning sent word to the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago that he is resting comfortably and doing well. Manning, who was in good spirits, reported that all was fine with him as he continues to express deep gratitude to those who have wished him well.

We would like the wish Mr Manning a safe surgery and speedy recovery.
